UK stock indices rose at the end of today’s session

UK stocks closed higher at the end of trading on Thursday, as indices were up, with gains in the Auto & Spare Parts, General Retail, Household Items and Home Building sectors.

At the close in London, the Investing.com UK 100 closed higher at 0.55%, and reached a record high in a month.

Among today’s top performers on the Investing.com UK 100 stocks emerged Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose by 11.54% or 88.80 points, and its price reached 858.40 at the close. On the other hand, Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) share continued to rise at 9.18% or 81.20 points and closed at 965.60, while Shares Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) increased 7.61% or 111.00 points at 1,569.50 at the end of the session.

As for the weakest performance at the end of today’s trading, the stock closed Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was down at 7.24% or 6.18 points, and traded at 79.14 levels at the close. Arrow United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 6.61% or 73.50 points at 1,039.00, and the stock SSE PLC (LON:SSE) closed down 4.61% or 86.00 points at 1,781.50.

The number of shares that gained the most exceeded the number of shares that closed lower, trading on the London Stock Exchange with 1060 compared to 517, while 465 remained unchanged.

Gold futures contracts for June delivery rose 0.10% or 1.89 and closed at $1,848.19 an ounce. As for other commodities trading, WTI crude oil futures for July delivery rose 3.58% or 3.95 and reached a price of $114.28 a barrel, while the August contract for Brent oil rose by 2.88% or 3.20 points, and closed at $114.32 a barrel.

The GBP/USD pair maintained stability by 0.07% and traded at 1.26 levels, while the EUR/GBP pair remained unchanged towards 0.21% and reached 0.85 levels.

The dollar index contracts were trading down 0.09% at the level of 101.99.
